Sandra Lozano

Sandra was always surrounded by music since she was a child. In her housethere was a large collection of records of the most recognized orchestras andconductors thanks to her father who worked at Phillips, the record label, sothey had the privilege of listening to high quality music continuously. Herparents wanted to enjoy music in all aspects and attending concerts of theBógota Philharmonic Orchestra on Saturdays was part of the routine. From therebegan her passion for music.

Since 2015 Sandra has been living in Hong Kong,a versatile, dynamic and innovative city that is constantly changing, whileremaining one of the most important in Asia and one of the largest financialcenters in the world. Here, where tradition and modernity are continuously beingrebuilt, Sandra specialized in the Suzuki method, expressing her love for musicas a cello teacher. Its creator, Dr. Shinichi Suzuki of Japanese origin, provedafter many years of teaching and training hundreds of outstanding students inthe world, that musical ability is not an innate talent but a skill andtherefore can be developed. And so, this methodology that finds its roots inAsia takes Sandra by the hand from her native Colombia studying, teaching andsharing her passion with several countries such as the United States, Mexico,Argentina, the Philippines and China among others.

Sandra comments that, "I always enjoyed teaching and helping othersovercome their mental and emotional barriers. At the suggestion of my celloteacher at the University, who saw my taste for pedagogy, I took the initiallevel of Suzuki method to expand my tools and from there I fell in love withthis method, not only for the high quality of the teachers and information, butfor the sense of community worldwide. It is great to have as a goal to trainexcellent human beings before artists (music is just an excuse), and to be ableto improve personally as a musician and as a pedagogue with each new course inthe midst of a generous community in art and love". This is how musicbecomes an instrument of creative expression and human value for Sandra, whenemigrating the cultural aspects of her country of origin are incorporated intothe new context. "Expressiveness, emotion, resilience, seeing the positiveside of each experience no matter how difficult it is and valuing and enjoyingimmensely with the simple things in life" is what she appreciates mostabout her country. "Punctuality, commitment, the value of the word andefficiency" is what she appreciates most about Hong Kong.  Sandra is presently connected with the Hong Kong Suzuki Music Institute.  She hopes that soon she will be able to travelin person to different parts of the world, bringing with her her passion formusic teaching, cultural management and social work.
